Telxius opened a point of presence at the NAP Caribe data center in Santo Domingo, connecting the Dominican Republic’s capital directly to its international transport and IP network. The PoP links with Telxius’ submarine cable landing gateway in Punta Cana, extending access from the coastal landing point into a carrier-neutral interconnection hub serving local and regional traffic.
The facility will provide transport, interconnection, internet, cloud access, private connectivity and security services to carriers, content providers and enterprises. Telxius operates more than 100,000 km of submarine and terrestrial fiber, a Tier-1 IP network and 25 carrier-neutral landing gateways and edge data centers, according to the company’s July 2026 announcement.
DataReportal counted 10.2 million internet users in the Dominican Republic at the start of 2025, equal to 88.6% of the population. Telxius said the deployment follows its network expansion in Fortaleza and builds on its Punta Cana gateway, which supports the SAm-1 extension to Puerto Rico and onward connectivity through the company’s Caribbean and Americas cable infrastructure.

🌐 Analysis: The Santo Domingo PoP complements Telxius’ subsea landing capacity with an inland carrier-neutral access point, tightening the connection between international cable routes and customer networks in the capital. Combined with the 2024 SAm-1 extension through Punta Cana and Puerto Rico and the 2026 Fortaleza expansion, the deployment reflects a broader strategy of adding metro PoPs and service layers around subsea landing infrastructure.
