US Signal Begins Construction of 1,000+ Miles of High-Density Middle-Mile Fiber

US Signal has begun active construction of more than 1,000 miles of new, high-density fiber and conduit infrastructure across Ohio and Indiana, expanding its middle-mile network to better connect core and edge data centers. The build targets AI, cloud, and latency-sensitive enterprise workloads, with routes designed around multi-conduit systems and high-count fiber to support long-term capacity growth.

The construction follows Igneo Infrastructure Partners’ $200 million investment in 2025 and puts US Signal’s expansion plans into execution. The company reports roughly 30% of the network is already complete, with remaining routes scheduled for completion by early 2027. Unlike overbuilds that reuse existing pathways, the project focuses on new conduit and new fiber to ensure durability and expansion headroom.

The Ohio and Indiana routes interconnect US Signal’s core data centers while enabling future edge data center development along key corridors. The expansion strengthens US Signal’s position in the Midwest, supporting dark fiber, lit services, and colocation-connected offerings as enterprises and service providers plan for sustained AI-driven traffic growth.

“Many providers talk about future builds. We’re building now,” said Daniel Watts, CEO at US Signal. “This is brand-new infrastructure—new conduit, new fiber, and new routes—designed from day one to support the massive capacity requirements of AI, cloud, and next-generation workloads.”
