ricssonViettel, one of Vietnam’s largest telecommunications providers, has expanded its partnership with Ericsson by selecting the Swedish company for the majority of its 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) deployment. The contract will see Ericsson 5G technology installed across most provinces in Vietnam, starting immediately. Ericsson will also upgrade Viettel’s existing 4G infrastructure, covering key areas like Hanoi and the northern and central regions of the country.
In addition to the 5G rollout, Viettel is planning spectrum refarming to New Radio (NR) using the 2600 MHz band for both 4G and 5G non-standalone (NSA) technologies. This strategy positions Viettel for future deployment of 5G Standalone (5G SA) services, setting the stage for introducing advanced enterprise applications and supporting Vietnam’s digital transformation. Ericsson and Viettel have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster 5G adoption, focusing on network slicing, developer enablement through APIs, and collaboration on emerging technologies.
• Ericsson to deploy 5G RAN for Viettel across most Vietnamese provinces
• Deployment to include Hanoi and northern/central Vietnam
• Viettel to refarm 2600 MHz spectrum for both 4G and 5G NSA
• Partnership also includes future 5G SA deployment plans
• MoU signed for 5G adoption, focusing on network slicing and developer ecosystem
“This year marks a significant milestone for Vietnam with the commercial deployment of 5G,” said Tao Duc Thang, President and CEO of Viettel. “5G will deliver superior user experience and enable new enterprise features that will unleash the capabilities of Industry 4.0.”
