Zayo Tests 1 Tbps Link Over 1,391 km With Infinera’s ICE7

Infinera’s ICE7 optical engine features a 5-nm CMOS DSP and supports baud rates exceeding 140 Gbaud, enabling single-wavelength transmission of up to 1.2 Tbps. The technology delivers improved reach, reduced power consumption, and lower cost per bit, making it a competitive solution for modern optical transport networks.

  • Zayo and Infinera conducted a live trial of 1 Tbps transmission over 1,391 km between Sacramento and Salt Lake City.
  • The trial achieved 32 Tbps C-Band capacity with potential scalability to 64 Tbps using L-Band.
  • Zayo operates a 132,000-route-mile network and one of the largest 400G networks in North America.
  • Infinera’s ICE7 optical engine features a 5-nm CMOS DSP and supports transmission speeds up to 1.2 Tbps per wavelength.
  • The ICE7 technology improves capacity reach while reducing cost per bit and power consumption.

“With the rapid growth in capacity needs due to high-bandwidth applications like AI, Zayo actively seeks innovative solutions to enhance our network’s performance by increasing capacity, capability, and reach. This successful test highlights how Zayo’s network is well-positioned to meet rising customer demands,” said Aaron Werley, SVP of Engineering at Zayo.
