Ericsson is pushing ahead with the commercialization of the O2 interface in collaboration with Dell Technologies and Red Hat. The O2 interface, defined by the O-RAN Alliance, plays a key role in enabling dynamic and flexible management of cloud infrastructure supporting Radio Access Networks (RAN) in a multi-vendor environment.

Ericsson, Dell, and Red Hat are conducting proofs of concept to validate O2 interface implementations, demonstrating seamless integration of cloud RAN management aligned with Open RAN specifications. This collaboration leverages Dell Telecom Infrastructure Blocks, Dell Telecom Infrastructure Automation Suite, and Red Hat OpenShift, integrating with Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform (EIAP) via the O2-IMS interface. These advancements will be showcased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 through live demonstrations at both the Dell and Ericsson exhibits.

The O2 interface standardizes interactions between RAN management and automation layers and O-Cloud infrastructure, ensuring seamless infrastructure and lifecycle management in Open RAN deployments. Ericsson has embedded native O2 support within its Cloud RAN network functions and Intelligent Automation Platform, further aligning with Open RAN standards to maximize multi-vendor interoperability.

  • Ericsson, Dell Technologies, and Red Hat advance the industrialization of the O2 interface.
  • The collaboration validates seamless integration of cloud RAN management via Open RAN specifications.
  • Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform (EIAP) integrates with Dell and Red Hat solutions through the O2-IMS interface.
  • The O2 interface standardizes lifecycle management across multi-vendor O-Cloud environments.
  • Live demonstrations of these advancements will be showcased at MWC 2025.

“The future of telecom networks lies in openness and interoperability. The O2 interface, as set out by the O-RAN Alliance, is a vital element for empowering CSPs with the flexibility they need to deliver multi-vendor, open, and programmable networks,” said Anders Vestergren, Head of Solution Area Network Management, Ericsson.
