A group of leading technology and industrial companies has launched the Ambient IoT Alliance (AIoTA) to accelerate the adoption of next-generation, battery-free IoT technologies. The founding members—Atmosic, Infineon Technologies AG, Intel, PepsiCo, Qualcomm, VusionGroup, and Wiliot—aim to develop a global ecosystem for ambient IoT solutions across Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5G.

The alliance will focus on interoperability, best practices, and standardization to enable seamless connectivity between ambient IoT devices and existing wireless infrastructure. This initiative supports large-scale deployment across industries such as retail, supply chain management, and healthcare, where energy-efficient IoT solutions can drive operational efficiencies and cost reductions. AIoTA will collaborate with IEEE (Wi-Fi), Bluetooth SIG, and 3GPP (5G Advanced) to align ambient IoT with global communication standards.

  • Mission: Promote a multi-standard ecosystem for ambient IoT adoption.
  • Technology Focus: Battery-free, low-cost IoT devices for real-time asset tracking and AI-powered analytics.
  • Industry Applications: Retail inventory management, logistics, healthcare, and supply chain optimization.
  • Wireless Compatibility: Designed to integrate with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5G networks.
  • Standards Development: Working with IEEE, Bluetooth SIG, and 3GPP for interoperability.

“Ambient IoT is well aligned with Infineon’s strategic focus on IoT and energy leadership,” said Dr. Kamesh Medapalli, Senior Vice President, Connected Secure Systems, Infineon Technologies. “We are proud to help shape new industry standards to securely connect billions of cost-optimized IoT devices while supporting sustainability.”
