Telescent Showcases Robotic16,128-Fiber Optical Switch

Telescent is showcasing a live demonstration of its new G5 optical patch panel with MPO-16 connectors at OFC 2025 in San Francisco. The system is capable of switching up to 16,128 fibers in a single standard equipment rack—doubling the fiber-handling capacity compared to previous designs. This upgrade targets hyperscale data centers, AI clusters, and high-speed optical networks that require massive parallel fiber interconnects and dynamic reconfiguration at scale.

The new MPO-16-enabled version of the G5 optical circuit switch maintains the same port count as its predecessor but boosts throughput by moving 16 fibers simultaneously per connector. The robotic system provides automated, low-loss optical patching and supports built-in diagnostics for link validation before activation. These capabilities reduce operational complexity, minimize downtime, and enable more efficient, scalable fiber management in large network environments.

Telescent’s platform continues to emphasize automation and modularity, allowing operators to scale fiber interconnects as demand grows. The company is positioning the G5 with MPO-16 as a solution to the growing challenge of managing tens of thousands of fiber connections in dense AI and data center environments. Live demonstrations are taking place at booth #5507 during OFC 2025.
