PacketLight Networks introduced the PL-8000M, a 2 x 800G muxponder platform designed for high-capacity transport in AI, cloud, and enterprise network environments. The device will be demonstrated live at OFC 2025, booth #3232.
The PL-8000M supports up to 1.6 Tbps in a 1U form factor using two 800G OpenROADM-compliant coherent optical modules. It integrates key optical layer elements—including mux/demux, EDFAs, and an optical switch—enabling complete optical transport functionality in a compact platform. The device is interoperable with third-party switches and routers and is intended for cost-effective deployment of 100GbE, 400GbE, and 800GbE services.
Key capabilities:
• 2 x 800G coherent optical interfaces (1.6 Tbps total capacity)
• Supports 100GbE, 400GbE, and 800GbE client services
• Integrated optical layer components: mux/demux, amplifiers, and optical switch
• Layer-1 GCM-AES-256 encryption with support for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)
• Full demarcation and performance monitoring of client traffic
• Pay-as-you-grow architecture for scalability
Target use cases:
• Data center interconnect (DCI) for AI and cloud networks
• 800G upgrades to existing DWDM/OTN infrastructure
• Secure transport of high-speed Ethernet services
• Optical transport demarcation in service provider networks
“The PL-8000M reflects PacketLight’s commitment to increasing network capacity while reducing cost and power per bit,” said Koby Reshef, CEO of PacketLight Networks.
