Coherent has introduced a new high-precision 2D molded glass lens array, expanding its portfolio of wafer-level optical components. The innovation, unveiled today in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, is designed to improve multi-channel optical signal transmission, offering higher uniformity, scalability, and reduced production costs. General availability is slated for Q1 2026, with demonstrations scheduled at ECOC 2025 in Copenhagen.

The molded 2D lens array leverages Coherent’s proprietary glass molding platform, allowing wafer-level manufacturing for advanced optical systems. The company said the technology targets critical bandwidth and consistency challenges across applications, including optical circuit switching, high-precision coupling, imaging, sensing, and AR/VR devices. By combining scalability with precise engineering, Coherent aims to position the lens array as a building block for next-generation optical communications and immersive systems.

Applications expected to benefit include datacenter optical interconnects, photonic switching, and advanced consumer devices requiring compact, high-performance optics. The successful qualification of samples clears the path for early adoption among equipment vendors and system developers looking to expand bandwidth while containing costs.
