HPE Brings Edge AI and Fault-Tolerant Core Systems to Retail

Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced an expansion of its retail-ready portfolio at NRF 2026: Retail’s Big Show, positioning always-on connectivity, AI-driven operations, and fault-tolerant compute as core building blocks for modern retail environments. The updated portfolio targets end-to-end retail operations, spanning store edge, back office, warehouses, and core transaction systems.

At the branch edge, HPE is combining Aruba Networking CX switching with Mist AIOps to deliver AI-native operations and real-time visibility, while HPE Nonstop systems anchor transaction processing and backend services at the core. The company says this architecture supports continuous operations during peak demand, helping retailers maintain transaction integrity, uptime, and customer experience as stores adopt more digital and data-driven workflows.

The latest updates include new compact Aruba CX 6000 switch models for space-constrained retail environments and higher-performance Nonstop Compute systems designed to scale transaction-heavy workloads. Both platforms integrate with HPE GreenLake, allowing retailers to consume networking and compute infrastructure through a subscription-based model aligned with operational needs.

  • AI-native retail insights: Integration of the Marvis virtual network assistant with Juniper Premium Analytics extends location intelligence, engagement metrics, and network performance data into a natural language interface, supporting proactive operations and faster decision-making.
  • Edge connectivity upgrades: New 8-port Aruba CX 6000 PoE and non-PoE switches support POS terminals, cameras, sensors, and Wi-Fi infrastructure, with silent, compact designs for checkout lanes and overhead installations.
  • User experience assurance: Aruba User Experience Insight adds Wi-Fi 7 support and proactive testing to identify issues before users or transactions are affected.
  • Core transaction resilience: HPE Nonstop Compute NS9 X5 and NS5 X5 systems deliver continuous availability for payment processing and inventory systems, with up to 15% higher performance versus prior generations based on internal benchmarks.
  • Security and compliance: Transparent Data Encryption enhances protection of sensitive customer and transaction data.

“In modern retail, a single lost transaction is a lost customer or a damaged reputation,” said Sujai Hajela, EVP and GM, Campus & Branch at HPE. “By combining resilient edge connectivity, AI-native operations, and fault-tolerant compute, we’re giving retailers the insight and assurance they need to operate continuously at scale.”
