Broadcom Reaches 800 Million Ethernet Port Milestone

Broadcom announced a major product shipment milestone: 800 million Ethernet ports, including over 300 million complete switch ports, to networking and personal computer companies worldwide.

In tracking GbE controllers, Broadcom counts an integrated MAC and PHY as one Ethernet port, defining the pair as a complete solution that is shipped to a PC or server manufacturer. The same is true in determining switch ports since a complete enterprise switching solution typically includes a PHY, MAC and switch fabric.
