ADC Adds Lightning Protection to HDSL2 and HDSL4

ADC has developed a new LoopShield Enhanced Lightning Protection (ELP) feature for its HDSL2 and HDSL4 modules that allows these products to survive much higher energy surges than currently required by industry standards. The new capability is designed to shunt the lightning surge current away from HDSL equipment, thereby preserving module integrity and allowing service to continue without blown fuses or damaged electronics. ADC said that although industry standard GR-1089 compliance does not require HDSL circuitry to continue operating after a lightning surge, its cards continue to operate well beyond the performance requirements of the industry standard. ADC’s LoopShield products are suited for long-reach copper-based HDSLx T1 services and cell site installations. The products are currently in lab trials at a major ILEC.
