Picolight Offers 850nm Optical Transceivers for Cheaper 10 Gbps Ethernet

Picolight introduced 850nm 10 Gbps transceivers and 10 Gbps pluggable modules that will be priced at the cost of 1310nm alternatives. Picolight’s new XENPAK modules join its “Accelar” 850nm vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) transceiver family that now spans all major 10 Gbps form factors including XENPAK, XPAK and XFP MSAs. Picolight said its family of XENPAK, XFP and XPAK transceivers could be used to inexpensively link Ethernet ports over installed multi-mode-fiber up to 300 meters.
