Arelion Bolsters Mexican Backbone with Terabit-Scale DWDM

Arelion has announced the launch of a new DWDM fiber route connecting Querétaro to Mexico City via Tultitlán, expanding its network presence in one of Latin America’s fastest-growing digital economies. The route, built entirely underground, supports terabit-scale capacity using 400G coherent optics and open line systems, providing highly resilient and low-latency connectivity for cloud, AI/ML, and content workloads.

The new connection links Arelion’s Point-of-Presence (PoP) at KIO QRO1 in Querétaro to KIO MEX5 in Tultitlán and KIO MEX2 in Mexico City. The route complements Arelion’s existing network, including the Monterrey–Querétaro route, reinforcing regional interconnection with global data center hubs in the U.S. The deployment is part of Arelion’s strategy to enable digital transformation across Mexico’s booming data center markets and support the needs of hyperscale customers and service providers.

The expansion brings the number of Arelion’s regional PoPs in Mexico to nine and integrates into the company’s global IP backbone—ranked #1 in the world. The infrastructure is designed to meet increasing demand for scalable IP transit, cloud connectivity, and DDoS mitigation services from enterprises, content providers, and carriers.

  • Expected to go live in late Q2 2025
