Astera Labs unveiled its new Scorpio Smart Fabric Switch portfolio, targeting cloud-scale AI infrastructure with PCIe 6 connectivity. Designed for demanding AI workloads, the Scorpio switches aim to deliver high performance per watt, system reliability, and faster deployment times for hyperscalers and AI platforms. The product lineup consists of two series: the P-Series for GPU-to-CPU/NIC/SSD PCIe 6 connectivity and the X-Series for back-end GPU clustering. Both series are optimized for AI dataflows, allowing faster and more efficient AI training and inferencing tasks.

The Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches are part of Astera Labs’ broader Intelligent Connectivity Platform, integrating with its COSMOS software suite for enhanced observability, security, and fleet management. The switches provide a customizable backbone for AI platforms, offering advanced diagnostics, telemetry, and seamless interoperability with leading GPUs. Currently, Scorpio is shipping in pre-production quantities and is being tested across various customer platforms in Astera Labs’ Cloud-Scale Interop Lab.

Jitendra Mohan, CEO of Astera Labs, highlighted the company’s focus on enabling maximum system uptime and utilization for AI workloads. The Scorpio switches provide an energy-efficient solution tailored for hyperscalers deploying large-scale AI infrastructure. Brian Kelleher, Senior VP of GPU Engineering at NVIDIA, emphasized the portfolio’s role in supporting NVIDIA’s accelerated AI infrastructure across various workloads.

Key points:

• Astera Labs launches Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches, built for cloud-scale AI workloads.

• Scorpio P-Series targets PCIe 6 connectivity for GPUs, CPUs, NICs, and SSDs.

• Scorpio X-Series focuses on back-end GPU clustering for AI training and inference.

• Integrated with COSMOS software for observability, security, and fleet management.

• Available in pre-production quantities with ongoing testing in customer platforms.
