AT&T and Union Continue Negotiations as Contract Expires

The contract covering 40,000 workers represented by the Communications Workers of America at AT&T East, Legacy T, Midwest (Ameritech) and West (Pacbell) expired at midnight PDT on April 8. Negotiations continued on Sunday between the Communications Workers of America and all four AT&T wireline. The union said its key issues are wages, pensions, health care, employment security, and successorship language. Work will continue on Monday while negotiations proceed.

The contracts are East, Legacy T, Midwest and West. The East contract covers more than 3,000 employees in Connecticut. The Legacy T contract covers nearly 6,000 employees spread across the country. The Midwest contract covers nearly 13,000 employees in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. The West contract covers more than 17,000 employees in California and Nevada.
