Constl & Ciena Deliver 1 Tbps Over 1,450 km in India,

Constl, a subsidiary of Space World Group, has deployed Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) to achieve 1 Tbps on a single optical channel across the 1,450 km Mumbai–Chennai route, marking India’s first long-haul 1T wavelength deployed without regeneration. While Ciena has delivered similar — and in several global cases higher, up to 1.6 Tb/s — wavelengths with other carriers, this achievement represents a major regional milestone for India’s fast-expanding digital infrastructure sector.

The Mumbai–Chennai corridor is among India’s busiest fiber routes and a critical east–west spine for hyperscalers, cloud connectivity, and major data-center clusters. Achieving 1 Tbps over this distance validates both Constl’s high-quality fiber buildout and the reach performance of WL6e under long-haul conditions in India’s operating environment.

Constl has scaled quickly since its founding in 2023, deploying 12,000 km of fiber and connecting ~100 data centers across 13 cities, all using Ciena’s coherent optical technology.

“This milestone positions us to expand our terrestrial fiber network and deliver high-capacity 800GbE services for the AI era,” said Ankit Goel, Chairman & Founder, Space World Group.

“Ciena’s coherent optics are recognized as the best-in-class platform for high-capacity AI services,”said Amit Malik, VP & GM, APJ & India, Ciena.
