IonQ, a leading quantum computing company, has completed its acquisition of Qubitekk, a prominent quantum networking firm. This strategic move integrates Qubitekk’s technology, products, team, and 118 U.S. and international patents into IonQ’s operations, strengthening IonQ’s position in the quantum networking sector. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Qubitekk, founded in 2012 by Dr. Duncan Earl, specializes in quantum cryptography-based secure machine-to-machine communication and authentication. The company developed the EPB Quantum Network in Chattanooga, Tennessee—the first commercially available quantum network in the U.S.—demonstrating its leadership in quantum networking.
IonQ, established in 2015 by Dr. Christopher Monroe and Dr. Jungsang Kim, is headquartered in College Park, Maryland. The company focuses on developing general-purpose trapped ion quantum computers and software to generate, optimize, and execute quantum circuits. IonQ’s recent achievements include a $54.5 million contract with the U.S. Air Force Research Lab to design and deliver quantum networking technology.
• IonQ’s Acquisition of Qubitekk: Integrates Qubitekk’s team, technology, and 118 patents into IonQ’s operations.
