Nokia has been selected by Spark New Zealand as the primary partner to expand its 4G and 5G infrastructure in key cities across the country. The agreement covers more than 700 sites, marking a significant step in Spark’s plan to streamline and consolidate its Radio Access Network (RAN) operations. By choosing Nokia as its main 5G RAN partner, Spark aims to enhance network performance and simplify its infrastructure while providing top-tier 5G services.

Nokia will supply Spark with advanced 5G equipment from its AirScale portfolio, which includes baseband units, remote radio heads, and massive MIMO radios. These systems are powered by Nokia’s ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, designed to optimize energy efficiency and deliver high-capacity, high-coverage 5G connectivity. This upgrade will enable Spark to offer improved connectivity to its customers while reducing operational complexity and costs.

• Nokia selected as the primary 5G RAN partner for Spark New Zealand.

• Over 700 sites to be upgraded with Nokia’s 5G AirScale portfolio.

• ReefShark System-on-Chip technology boosts energy efficiency and connectivity.

• Partnership aligns with Spark’s goal to simplify network operations and reduce costs.

Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, commented: “We are thrilled to have been selected by Spark as the majority supplier for this transformative 5G project and to support its vision of streamlining operations and consolidating its network.”
