At OFC50, OIF demonstrated interoperability and innovation at the electrical interface with a suite of 224Gbps and 112Gbps CEI multi-vendor demonstrations spanning a variety of applications, enabling next-generation electrical and optical connectivity. OIF’s live 448G demo highlighted both the opportunities and challenges faced by hyperscalers in scaling AI networks, building upon its previous CEI-224G demonstrations, which included an expanding range of link types—from Very Short Reach (VSR) to Long Reach (LR) and Linear interfaces.
Michael Klempa, Interoperability Working Group Chair from OIF explains:
– Successful demonstration of multi-vendor interoperability at 112G and 224G speeds across various technologies and platforms
– Testing and validation of linear and RTLR (retimed) interfaces using half-timed modules in switch and network interface card configurations
– Active exploration of 448G technology challenges, including analysis of PAM4/6/8 signals, SNR requirements, and power consumption trade-offs
