Pirelli Introduces ADSL Modular Access Gateway

Pirelli Cables and Systems introduced an ADSL Modular Access Gateway featuring a built-in Smartcard reader and the ability for users to plug-in additional hardware modules for expanding the functionality of the gateway. Expansion modules include a 4-port Ethernet switch and a Wi-Fi access port. A programmable smart-card can be used to customize the Pirelli gateway for each individual user. The Smartcard can store basic information such as passwords and user preferences. It could also be used in lieu of a CD to automate installations, for network-defined services, or for broadband applications in which no PC is present.
