Sparkle Extends 8 Tbps IP Backbone to Mexico

A A

Sparkle has opened a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Querétaro, Mexico, expanding its Latin American backbone and reinforcing its role as a Tier-1 global Internet provider in the region. The new node connects directly to Sparkle’s Seabone IP backbone and offers throughput of up to 8 Tbps. This move supports growing regional demand for high-capacity, low-latency connectivity from network operators, ISPs, OTT platforms, and enterprise customers.

The Querétaro PoP integrates into Sparkle’s network of 32 existing locations across Central and South America, including key sites in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Panama. It also enables access to Sparkle’s IP service suite, including DDoS Protection and Virtual NAP for connecting to global Internet Exchange Points without the need for new infrastructure. This marks Sparkle’s first PoP in Mexico under its subsidiary TI Sparkle Mexicana S.A. de C.V., joining U.S. locations in McAllen, El Paso, and Dallas.

Sparkle’s regional infrastructure strategy also includes the new MANTA subsea cable system, which will link Mexico with the U.S., Central America, and other parts of Latin America. Combined with existing submarine cables like Curie, Monet, and Seabras-1, MANTA will enhance route diversity and resilience for intercontinental traffic. Sparkle plans to launch another PoP in San Diego in the coming months to further optimize traffic flow and latency.

  • Future PoP planned for San Diego to improve U.S.-Mexico routing

“The opening of our Point of Presence in Mexico represents a strategic step in Sparkle’s expansion across the Americas, with targeted investments to support the continent’s digital growth,” said Enrico Bagnasco, CEO of Sparkle.
