Telefónica Germany has chosen Blue Planet, a division of Ciena, to deliver a cloud-native, multi-domain automation platform as part of its broader shift to autonomous network operations and 5G monetization. The operator is deploying Blue Planet’s Inventory, Multi-Domain Service Orchestration (MDSO), and 5G Network Slicing applications to unify service management across radio, transport, and core domains. The solution underpins Telefónica’s “Network & Operations of the Future” vision, offering full-stack network visibility and dynamic service orchestration in a multi-vendor environment.

The initiative supports Telefónica Germany’s ambition to be among Europe’s first to adopt a public cloud-based OSS architecture. The Blue Planet platform is enabling rapid rollout of features, intent-based orchestration, and automation of fixed and mobile services. Telefónica expects the transition to reduce time-to-market for new services, lower OpEx, and enhance customer experience. Already, the deployment has delivered measurable operational benefits within months of launch.

Telefónica Germany is extending its network transformation by leveraging 5G advanced features and lifecycle management to enhance both business and consumer offerings. The applications run on Blue Planet’s Cloud Native Platform, allowing faster integration of new features and boosting agility across operational processes.

  • Telefónica Germany is deploying Blue Planet Inventory, MDSO, and 5G Network Slicing for end-to-end network automation.
  • The software enables real-time orchestration across RAN, transport, and core domains.
  • Cloud-native OSS architecture is central to Telefónica’s 5G and NaaS strategy.
  • The platform accelerates feature rollout, improves service agility, and supports intent-based orchestration.
  • Telefónica is targeting reduced costs, faster service delivery, and enhanced network visibility.

“We are starting the next level of effectiveness in our development and operational processes,” said Eva Ulicevic, Director of Architecture, Strategy and Analytics at Telefónica Germany. “The future-proof software platform makes the implementation of new features much faster.”
