What’s the next big disruption in the fiber industry?
Geoff Burke, Chief Marketing Officer from DZS explains:
– The middle mile of fiber networks is undergoing a significant transformation. Historically measured in gigabits, the middle mile is now being measured in minimums of 100 gigabit, maybe 400 gigabit per second speeds, especially as it reaches underserved communities.
– The middle mile is becoming hardened, with the use of coherent optics and the DWDM to move bandwidth and transport closer to the subscriber edge. This is crucial in making a difference for these underserved communities.
– As the middle mile extends to far-flung places, it passes numerous communities along the way, opening up opportunities to branch off these networks to add new services to the communities that are passed. This creates a much more robust infrastructure that raises the bar for every communication network across North America and other places around the world.
