Thomson Launches New Broadband Gateways

At the Broadband World Forum, Thomson unveiled several new gateway product lines: the MediaCenterGateway, the TG797n and the TG628.

Thomson’s MediaCenterGateway is a home media hub integrated in a DSL gateway, designed for the delivery of advanced voice and video services
This home entertainment center provides broadband access and VoIP services supporting up to fifteen dedicated telephone numbers and up to five wireless phones simultaneously. The home entertainment center provides broadband access and VoIP services, with multimedia applications to enable the sharing of content to and from the hard disk or PC to all WiFi and Ethernet connected devices, such as televisions, DECT handsets supporting CAT-iq, PC or even an MP3 player. It supports UPnP AV standards and DLNA technology.

The TG797n is capable of supporting the wireless streaming of high-definition video throughout the home. It can be associated with up to fifteen dedicated telephone numbers via VoIP, and up to five wireless phones simultaneously. It provides four Ethernet ports for connecting PCs and IPTV set-top boxes and two USB ports for printers and storage devices. The gateway also includes Thomson’s wideband audio codec for high-definition sound, providing CD-quality sound for VoIP. The wireless DECT phones can also be used to remotely control other devices attached to the THOMSON TG797n, such as the THOMSON Music Box, and is configured to receive information services such as news, weather, travel and local business details. Two new HD Sound DECT phones models can also be integrated with the new THOMSON TG797n gateway — the THOMSON TH52 and THOMSON TH58 — and will be available in Q1’2008.

The THOMSON TG628 is an 8-wire (4 pair) SHDSL.bis EFM (Ethernet First Mile) gateway which allows operators to offer 22 Mbps two-way Ethernet service over the copper wiring that dominates the last-mile of telecom networks across Europe. Thomson said that its TG628 offers telecom operators an alternative to deploying fiber connections to the business for high-bandwidth services.
