CableLabs, in collaboration with Intel and the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), has completed a real-world field trial validating the capabilities of Wi-Fi 7 in residential environments. Conducted in a 4,500-square-foot home, the trial demonstrated multi-gigabit throughput, consistent floor-to-floor coverage, and improved uplink performance, confirming Wi-Fi 7’s readiness to support next-generation home connectivity.

The trial achieved downlink speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps using 320 MHz channels in the 6 GHz band, with sustained throughput of over 2 Gbps throughout the home. Uplink performance was also notably enhanced, supporting demanding applications such as cloud gaming, video conferencing, and smart home services. CableLabs led the testing methodology, focusing on how Wi-Fi 7 performs under realistic residential deployment scenarios.

The results reinforce Wi-Fi 7’s potential for bandwidth-heavy and latency-sensitive applications, including AR/VR, 4K/8K video streaming, and home automation. By utilizing cleaner spectrum in the 6 GHz band and wide 320 MHz channels, Wi-Fi 7 offers substantial improvements over previous generations in both speed and reliability.

  • Real-world trial conducted in a 4,500-square-foot residential home.
  • Achieved up to 3.7 Gbps peak downlink speeds using 320 MHz channels in the 6 GHz band.
  • Delivered consistent 2+ Gbps performance across entire floors.
  • Improved uplink capacity supports video calls and cloud-based applications.
  • Wi-Fi 7 performance validated for high-density, connected home environments.

“This trial demonstrates that Wi-Fi 7 is not just a lab concept—it’s delivering transformative speed and reliability in real homes. With these results, we’re moving closer to a future of seamless, high-capacity wireless connectivity.”
