#OFC25 video: Unified Management for Multi-Vendor Optical Networks

How does CMIS enable multi-vendor interoperability in optical networks?

Ian Alderdice, Physical and Link Layer Working Group Management Co-Vice Chair from OIF explains:

– CMIS provides standardized monitoring of critical parameters (OSNR, ESNR, temperature) across different vendor modules and routers
– Network management software from multiple vendors (Cisco, Ciena, Infinera) can consistently read and display the same monitoring values
– Unified alarm reporting system ensures consistent notification of issues like optical loss of signal across all vendor equipment

The demonstration includes the CMIS industry-standard management interface for a common network control platform, showing interoperability among different plug types, switches/routers and test-measurement equipment, all from different vendors and all operating using the CMIS family of specification documents.
