Nokia Delivers Tactical Private Wireless Systems to U.S. Marine Corps

Nokia has delivered its Banshee tactical private wireless solutions to the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA), strengthening the U.S. Marine Corps’ efforts to modernize battlefield communications. The Banshee system offers secure, high-speed, long-range wireless connectivity designed to withstand harsh tactical environments and support real-time sensor-to-shooter data integration. This delivery follows a series of successful field demonstrations and proof-of-concept trials conducted in 2023.

The Banshee solution was validated at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and Project Convergence for its ability to operate effectively in denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited (DDIL) communication scenarios. Based on these outcomes, MCTSSA acquired multiple Banshee units in early 2025 for integration into ongoing military exercises. Nokia also provided hands-on training in system setup, network operations, and troubleshooting to ensure smooth deployment across operational units.

The Banshee system is built as a lightweight, COTS-based alternative to legacy communications, offering scalability, enhanced security, and reduced costs. Integrated with Nokia’s 5G tactical edge technologies, the platform supports resilient connectivity for distributed operations. Marine Corps officials emphasized the importance of low-latency, high-bandwidth links to ensure precise coordination between sensors and weapons systems in contested domains.

  • Nokia delivered multiple Banshee tactical private wireless units to MCTSSA in early 2025.
  • Validated in 2023 at MCAS Yuma and Project Convergence for DDIL resilience.
  • Provides high-speed, long-range, secure wireless communications in tactical environments.
  • Nokia delivered hands-on operational training to MCTSSA and Marine units.
  • Banshee leverages COTS design to reduce costs while enhancing mission flexibility.

“Banshee is a game-changer for the warfighter, providing the Marine Corps with a powerful, scalable private wireless solution that meets the demand of modern warfare,” said Scott Ferguson, Chief Revenue Officer, Nokia Federal Solutions.
