AT&T Tops 30 Million Fiber Locations, Targets 60 Million by 2030

AT&T announced it has passed more than 30 million consumer and business locations with its fiber network, marking a major milestone in its strategy to build out America’s largest fiber broadband footprint. The company reached this goal ahead of schedule, reinforcing its position as the nation’s leading fiber internet provider and setting the stage for a continued push to 60 million locations by 2030.

“This accomplishment is a testament to our team’s hard work over many years to build the nation’s largest and fastest-growing fiber broadband network,” said John Stankey, CEO of AT&T. “Our investments in fiber are fueling economic growth and creating jobs, while delivering the fast, reliable connectivity Americans expect—backed by the AT&T Guarantee.”

AT&T is pursuing a multifaceted expansion strategy that includes organic network builds, its Gigapower joint venture, commercial open-access agreements, and public-private partnerships. It also recently announced plans to acquire Lumen’s Mass Markets fiber assets, covering over 4 million locations and roughly 1 million fiber customers across 11 states. These efforts support AT&T’s ambition to double the current fiber footprint by the end of the decade. Since 2020, AT&T has added 5.7 million fiber subscribers and deployed thousands of miles of fiber infrastructure, investing more than $145 billion into its wireless and wireline networks.

  • AT&T now passes over 30 million homes and businesses with fiber, ahead of target
  • Plans to reach 60 million fiber locations by 2030 through organic builds, joint ventures, and acquisitions
  • Recently announced acquisition of Lumen’s consumer fiber business will add 4M+ locations
  • Added 5.7M fiber subscribers since 2020; now offers multi-gig service backed by AT&T Guarantee
  • $145B+ invested in networks and spectrum since 2020 to support broadband growth
