Groq Expands to Europe with New AI Inference Data Center in Helsinki

Groq has launched its first European AI inference data center in Helsinki, Finland, in partnership with Equinix. The move brings Groq’s high-performance Language Processing Unit (LPU) technology closer to European users, reducing latency and ensuring stronger data sovereignty and privacy compliance. The Helsinki deployment will allow enterprises across EMEA to access GroqCloud via Equinix Fabric’s private and sovereign infrastructure options.

The Finland location was selected for its energy efficiency and sustainability, leveraging the country’s clean energy mix, free-air cooling, and stable power grid. Equinix emphasized the Nordics as a key hub for AI infrastructure, enabling scalable and cost-effective inference performance. The new footprint adds to Groq’s existing deployments in the U.S. (with Equinix and DataBank), Canada (via Bell Canada), and Saudi Arabia (with HUMAIN), collectively serving over 20 million tokens per second.

Groq’s inference platform is purpose-built for real-time performance, delivering low-cost, scalable AI via custom-built silicon and a vertically integrated stack. Over 1.8 million developers and numerous Fortune 500 companies now rely on GroqCloud to deploy production AI at scale with predictable performance and low operating costs.

• New European AI inference data center launched in Helsinki, Finland

• Deployment in partnership with Equinix, accessible via Equinix Fabric

• Supports private and sovereign connections for data governance

• GroqCloud now spans North America, Europe, and the Middle East

• Groq serves 20M+ tokens/sec using its custom LPU architecture

“With our new European data center, customers get the lowest latency possible and infrastructure ready today,” said Jonathan Ross, CEO and Founder of Groq. “We’re unlocking developer ambition now, not months from now.”

  • Groq, headquartered in Mountain View, California, is a pioneering AI infrastructure company focused on ultra-low latency inference at scale. Founded in 2016 by Jonathan Ross—one of the original architects of Google’s Tensor Processing Unit (TPU)—Groq has developed a purpose-built architecture centered around its Tensor Streaming Processor (TSP), a novel single-core design that eliminates the need for instruction scheduling and delivers deterministic performance. This unique approach enables Groq to offer extremely high throughput and predictable latency, making it particularly well-suited for real-time AI applications, including large language models and computer vision. The company provides its inference-as-a-service platform via a global network of data centers, including recent expansions through partnerships with Equinix in Europe. Privately held, Groq has raised funding from investors such as Tiger Global, D1 Capital Partners, and TDK Ventures.
