Cisco Extends McLaren F1 Sponsorship

Cisco has extended its commercial technology sponsorship of the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team, using the renewed agreement to promote its AI-ready networking, security, collaboration and observability portfolio. Cisco is the sponsoring party, while McLaren provides brand exposure, promotional assets and customer-engagement opportunities alongside its use of Cisco technology. The companies did not disclose the sponsorship payment, contract duration, value of any contributed technology or procurement structure.

The relationship began with separate technology sponsorships. Splunk joined McLaren as a technology partner in 2020, Webex became the Formula 1 team’s official collaboration platform in 2021, and Cisco expanded its role across enterprise networking and wireless infrastructure in 2022. Following Cisco’s approximately $28 billion acquisition of Splunk in 2024, Cisco will consolidate Splunk’s McLaren sponsorship under the broader Cisco agreement, allowing the company to market networking, security, collaboration and observability through a single relationship.

Cisco made the commercial purpose clear, describing McLaren as a platform for engaging important customers and showcasing its portfolio in a high-profile operating environment. The renewed sponsorship began with a “High-Speed AI: Executive Conversations” event at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England, involving Cisco customers, partners and representatives from McLaren, Mastercard and Deloitte. Cisco did not identify any new products, architecture changes, deployment schedules or measured performance improvements, making this primarily a sponsorship renewal supported by a technology narrative rather than the announcement of a new technical deployment.

• Deal type: Commercial technology sponsorship

• Sponsor: Cisco

• Sponsored organization: McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team

• Technology themes: AI-ready networking, security, collaboration and observability

• Splunk: Its existing McLaren sponsorship will be consolidated under Cisco

• Marketing value: Global brand exposure, promotional assets and enterprise customer engagement

• Operational context: Trackside communications, the McLaren Technology Centre and global team operations

• Financial disclosure: Sponsorship payment and overall contract value were not announced

• Technical disclosure: No new products, architecture changes or performance results were identified

“When a championship team like McLaren Mastercard F1 chooses to build their future on the full power of the Cisco portfolio, that validates our unified approach. Seeing our technology at the heart of their operations—there is no more powerful proof point to demonstrate to our customers that Cisco is the critical infrastructure for the AI era,” said Bryan Jones, SVP of Global Revenue, Field and Partner Marketing at Cisco.

🌐 Analysis: The commercial value for Cisco extends beyond technology deployment: Formula 1 gives the company global visibility and a high-profile setting for entertaining customers and demonstrating its broader portfolio. Because neither company disclosed the sponsorship fee, technology contribution, procurement structure or new deployment details, the announcement should not be interpreted as independent validation of specific AI infrastructure capabilities.
