Costa Rica’s RACSA Rolls Out 5G with Nokia

Nokia has partnered with Radiográfica Costarricense SA (RACSA), a Grupo ICE company, to launch Costa Rica’s first 5G standalone network. The network, powered by Nokia’s AirScale radio technology, now provides high-speed, low-latency connectivity in key urban centers such as San Jose, Cartago, and Limon, with expansion to rural areas. The initial phase included 30 sites, and there are plans to reach 500 sites by the end of the next phase. This deployment represents a major milestone for Costa Rica, laying the groundwork for enhanced digital transformation across multiple sectors.

Nokia’s AirScale portfolio, including Massive MIMO radios, remote radio heads, and base stations, has been integrated into the network, alongside their MantaRay Network Management solution for streamlined oversight. RACSA will also use Nokia’s FastMile 5G Receivers and the Compact Mobility Unit (CMU) Core to ensure the seamless deployment of the 5G standalone architecture.
