EchoStar Deploys Marconi in Video Transport Network

July 14, 2003
in Uncategorized
A A

EchoStar Communications Corporation awarded a contract to Marconi to supply a Distributed Protection Switching solution for EchoStar’s video transport network. Equipment purchased by EchoStar includes Marconi’s ASX-4000 40 Gbps switch-router, TNX-1100 10 Gbps and TNX-210 2.5 Gbps switch-routers and ForeThought system software. Marconi said its Distributed Protection Switching provides circuit, source device, destination device and edge switch node protection that is more resilient and significantly less expensive than SONET automated protection switching (APS) and SDH multiplex section protection (MSP). Where SONET or SDH requires a permanent standby fiber for redundancy, Marconi’s Distributed Protection Switching delivers cost-savings by switching traffic across all active fibers in the event of a failure for maximum bandwidth utilization. Financial terms were not disclosed.
