Japan's SINET Deploys Juniper's MX960 3D routers

The Science Information Network (SINET), which connects more than 700 universities and research institutions throughout Japan, has deployed Juniper Networks’ MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers, the Junos operating system and Junos Software Development Kit (SDK) to deliver dynamic network services.

Specifically, the MX960 3D routers have been deployed at eight points-of-presence across the country, including super nodes in Tokyo and Osaka. With 2.6 Tbps per router, the MX960s provide a foundation for massive scalability and support for wire-speeds up to 100Gbps. They are configured with Juniper Networks Multiservice Dense Port Concentrators, which simultaneously enable a broad range of applications and services, such as advanced IPsec, J-Flow accounting and tunnel services.

SINET4 adds to the multiple network Layer 1, 2 and 3 services that were provided by SINET3 while paving the way for resource-on-demand delivery and the introduction of higher-layer services. Researchers at the National Institute of Informatics are using the Junos SDK to build and evaluate network applications on each virtual slice that leverage the power of Junos to orchestrate dynamic configuration changes across the SINET4 backbone infrastructure.

“SINET4 is a real showcase for Juniper Networks’ silicon and software technologies that go into making the new network,” said Mike Marcellin, vice president of marketing and business strategy, Juniper Networks. “Junos is the key since it provides a programmable, integrated approach to network design, creating a consistent cross-network platform that enables NII to innovate a new generation of dynamic network services with the Junos SDK.”http://www.juniper.nethttp://www.sinet.ad.jp
