Kioxia Launches PCIe 5.0 SSDs to Maximize GPU Utilization

Kioxia America has introduced its next-generation CD9P Series PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSDs, targeting AI, HPC, and accelerated computing environments with higher performance, greater efficiency, and expanded capacity. Built on Kioxia’s 8th-generation BiCS FLASH 3D NAND with CMOS directly bonded to array (CBA) architecture, the drives deliver up to double the capacity of previous models while significantly improving power and performance metrics.

Designed to keep GPUs consistently fed with data, the CD9P Series SSDs are optimized for AI and machine learning workloads that demand sustained throughput and low latency. The 15.36 TB model achieves sequential read/write improvements of 60%/45% per watt, and random read/write gains of 55%/100% per watt over the prior generation. Overall 4-corner performance improves by up to 125% for random write, 30% for random read, 20% for sequential read, and 25% for sequential write.

Available in 2.5-inch and EDSFF E3.S form factors, with capacities up to 61.44 TB, the CD9P Series supports PCIe 5.0 and NVMe 2.0 standards. The SSDs are now sampling to select customers and will be showcased at HPE Discover Las Vegas 2025, June 23-26.
