Lightmatter has joined the Ultra Accelerator Link Consortium (UALink) as a Contributor member to help establish high-speed, low-latency open interconnect standards for AI systems.

Using its Passage™ technology—a 3D-stacked photonic engine—Lightmatter aims to enhance accelerator-to-accelerator communication, enabling bandwidths of up to hundreds of Tbps per chip and supporting the scalability of next-generation AI clusters.

UALink targets interconnect solutions for up to 1,024 AI accelerators. Lightmatter says its innovations will drive advancements to remove chip shoreline constraints and increase HBM capacity. The partnership aims to standardize solutions for integrating XPU and switch silicon, supporting the demands of increasingly complex AI workloads.

“The UALink Consortium goals align perfectly with Lightmatter’s mission to push the boundaries of AI interconnect,” said Steve Klinger, VP of Product at Lightmatter.

Key Highlights:

• Passage Technology: Drives up to hundreds of Tbps bandwidth per chip.

• Scaling AI Systems: Targets integration of up to 1,024 AI accelerators.

• Standardization Efforts: Develops open standards for next-gen AI clusters.

  • The Ultra Accelerator Link Consortium (UALink) is an industry initiative focused on developing high-speed, low-latency interconnect standards for AI systems. The consortium’s board members include leading technology companies such as AMD, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Astera Labs, Cisco, Google, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Intel, Meta, and Microsoft.
