MACOM Technology Solutions has announced its acquisition of ENGIN-IC, a fabless semiconductor company based in Austin, Texas and specializing in advanced Gallium Nitride (GaN) monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) and integrated microwave assemblies. The addition of ENGIN-IC’s design team, based in Texas and California, is set to enhance MACOM’s GaN capabilities, helping the company better serve its core markets, including the U.S. defense sector, and further its position as a leader in high-efficiency GaN solutions.
ENGIN-IC, founded in 2014, has a strong track record in the defense industry, with a product portfolio featuring over 60 standard MMICs and custom designs such as power amplifiers, transmit/receive chips, and phase-shifters. This acquisition is part of MACOM’s strategy to capitalize on GaN technology for wideband, high-efficiency applications, allowing the company to offer expanded support to defense and aerospace customers.
Key Points:
• Acquisition Focus: Enhances MACOM’s GaN MMIC design expertise, especially for defense applications.
• ENGIN-IC’s Portfolio: Includes high-efficiency power amplifiers, transmit/receive chips, and various S- to K-band modules.
• Strategic Fit: Aligns with MACOM’s goal to lead in GaN semiconductor processes.
• Funding: Acquisition funded with MACOM’s cash-on-hand; minimal impact on near-term financials.
