Nokia has announced its acquisition of Rapid’s technology assets and research and development (R&D) unit, a strategic move aimed at bolstering Nokia’s network API solutions and its ecosystem. Through this acquisition, Nokia will integrate Rapid’s robust API hub technology, renowned for supporting thousands of developers worldwide, with its own Network as Code platform. This expansion will enable operators to monetize their 5G and 4G network assets by exposing network functions in a standardized, developer-friendly way, supporting the creation of innovative consumer, enterprise, and industrial applications.
Network operators globally are increasingly investing in API solutions to make their network assets accessible to developers, fueling the creation of new applications and services. Rapid’s API technology, coupled with Nokia’s existing platform, will provide operators with enhanced API lifecycle management, secure network integration, and improved API exposure control. This move aligns with Nokia’s strategic goals of driving API-related product development and fostering collaboration within its extensive ecosystem of partners, which already includes BT, DISH, Google Cloud, Infobip, Orange, Telefonica, and Telecom Argentina.
Since Nokia launched its Network as Code platform in 2023, it has rapidly gained traction, drawing interest from prominent partners worldwide. Now, with the addition of Rapid’s API solutions, Nokia aims to provide operators with a powerful API infrastructure and access to Rapid’s extensive developer network. Financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed.
