OCP Global Summit: 3nm Drives PCIe Gen 7

A A

Each new generation of PCIe brings major improvements. The industry is now poised for the next two waves. Annie Liao, Product Management Director from Marvell explains:

  • PCIespeeds double every 2-3 years, with Gen 5 currently in use and Gen 6 and 7 on the horizon
  • As speeds increase, signal transfer over longer distances becomes challenging, conflicting with AI and disaggregated infrastructure needs
  • PCI retimers solve this problem by extending trace lengths and enabling cable connections between CPUs and endpoints
