Ravee Optics raised $6 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round to advance compact optical communications terminals designed to increase data transport capacity across satellite networks. BIG Capital led the round, with participation from JobsOhio Ventures and CincyTech, following Ravee’s graduation from the Seraphim Space Accelerator in 2025.

The Dayton, Ohio-based startup develops laser communications hardware for inter-satellite links and other on-orbit data transport applications. Ravee said its architecture combines compact optics with design-for-manufacturing principles to reduce terminal size and weight while supporting higher-volume production. The company claims its systems can transport 10 to 100 times more data than current standards, although it did not disclose specific terminal throughput rates, size, weight, power consumption, or interoperability specifications.

Ravee has generated early revenue from testing programs and demonstrated its core optics technology through a U.S. Air Force program. Co-founders Piyush Shah and Augustine Urbas bring optical technology experience that includes work with the Air Force Research Laboratory in Dayton. The company will use the seed capital for engineering and product development as it prepares for in-space testing and broader deployment with government and commercial satellite operators.

• Funding: $6 million oversubscribed seed round

• Lead investor: BIG Capital

• Additional investors: JobsOhio Ventures and CincyTech

• Technology: Compact laser communications terminals for satellite networks

• Primary application: High-capacity inter-satellite and on-orbit data transport

• Performance claim: 10 to 100 times greater data transport capacity than current standards

• Development status: Core optics technology demonstrated through a U.S. Air Force program

• Commercial status: Early revenue from testing programs

• Roadmap: In-space testing followed by broader satellite-network deployments

“We are building ultra-compact optical communications terminals to serve the growing demand for on-orbit data transport. We built our technology to address this challenge at scale with revolutionary optics technology and design for manufacturing to enable wider deployment of optical communications across the future space ecosystem,” said Piyush Shah, co-founder of Ravee Optics.

🌐 Analysis: Ravee Optics enters a growing market for optical inter-satellite links as satellite constellations generate larger volumes of data and operators seek higher-capacity alternatives to radio-frequency links. The company’s emphasis on compact terminals and scalable manufacturing places it among emerging suppliers seeking to reduce the size, weight, cost, and production constraints that could limit widespread optical connectivity across large satellite networks.
