San Diego Joins Sparkle’s Expanding Tier-1 IP Footprint

Sparkle, the international service arm of Italy’s TIM Group, has expanded its presence in the United States with the launch of a new Point of Presence (PoP) in San Diego, California. This new node joins existing U.S. locations in McAllen, El Paso, and Dallas, as well as Queretaro, Mexico, further enhancing Sparkle’s network redundancy and regional reach. The San Diego PoP is hosted at MDC’s carrier-neutral data center and is directly integrated into Sparkle’s Seabone IP backbone.

The Seabone network, recognized as a Tier-1 global IP backbone, spans 52 PoPs across North and South America, and is supported by Sparkle’s terrestrial and submarine infrastructure. The company currently leverages four undersea cables—Curie, Monet, Seabras-1, and the upcoming Manta system—to provide five fully diverse routes connecting South and North America. This architecture ensures low-latency, high-throughput transit and increased resilience for Sparkle’s partners and customers.

The San Diego facility will offer ISPs, network operators, CDNs, and cloud providers multi-Terabit IP transit, DDoS mitigation, and Virtual NAP services for virtualized access to leading IXPs. The move underscores Sparkle’s continued investment in Latin America-to-U.S. connectivity and its ambition to deliver highly reliable and secure infrastructure for the global digital economy.

  • Sparkle opens new U.S. PoP in San Diego, California
  • Integrated with Seabone Tier-1 IP backbone and submarine digital highways
  • Supports multi-Tbps IP transit, DDoS Protection, and Virtual NAP access
  • Enhances U.S.–Latin America redundancy via five diverse subsea paths
  • Sparkle now operates 52 PoPs across the Americas

“We continue to invest in building a resilient, low-latency network across the Americas to support the growth of our customers’ data-driven services,” said Sparkle in a company statement.
