Turkcell has awarded Ericsson a contract to upgrade and expand its 4G and 5G networks using energy-efficient radio access technology. The deployment includes Ericsson’s dual- and triple-band radios, allowing Turkcell to provide simultaneous 4G and 5G services across multiple spectrum layers, including 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2600 MHz. By consolidating these frequency bands into a single unit, the upgrade reduces equipment requirements, lowers deployment time, and improves site efficiency. The large-scale rollout has already helped decrease network energy consumption by up to 30 percent, aligning with Turkcell’s sustainability goals.
As Turkcell expands its mobile network coverage, the company faces increasing challenges related to site acquisition, installation requirements, and energy consumption. To address these issues, Ericsson is providing performance assessments, test cases, and technical support to optimize network deployment. The partnership is designed to enhance Turkcell’s network modernization while reducing environmental impact, allowing the operator to deliver higher-capacity connectivity with improved efficiency across Türkiye.
Ericsson has been Turkcell’s main mobile infrastructure provider since 1994, supporting multiple network evolution phases over the years. This latest contract strengthens their long-standing collaboration and ensures Turkcell can continue advancing its 4G and 5G services to meet growing consumer and business demands.
Key points:
• Turkcell has selected Ericsson to upgrade its 4G and 5G networks with energy-efficient technology
• Ericsson’s dual- and triple-band radios consolidate multiple frequency layers, reducing equipment needs
• The deployment has already lowered Turkcell’s network energy consumption by up to 30 percent
• Ericsson provides testing, assessments, and technical support to streamline network expansion
• Ericsson has been Turkcell’s primary mobile infrastructure provider since 1994
“We are excited to collaborate with Ericsson to implement their cutting-edge, energy-efficient products to strengthen our infrastructure and significantly boost our 4G and 5G capabilities,” said Prof. Dr. Vehbi Çağrı Güngör, Chief Technology Officer of Turkcell. “By reducing energy consumption and environmental impact, we’re taking a meaningful step toward a more sustainable future for Türkiye.”
