US Signal Invests $200M to Expand Data Center and Fiber Infrastructure for AI

US Signal has unveiled a $200 million infrastructure expansion program to strengthen its national footprint with major upgrades to its data center capacity and fiber backbone. The initiative includes power expansions at its Detroit Metro and Des Moines data centers, alongside the construction of over 1,000 miles of new ultra-dense fiber and conduit. Backed by Igneo Infrastructure Partners, the investment aims to meet escalating demand from hyperscalers and enterprise customers deploying AI, cloud, and edge computing applications.

The Detroit Metro site will add 3 megawatts (MW) of commercial power, while Des Moines will see a 6 MW boost—positioning both sites among the most scalable and power-dense facilities in their regions. These expansions are purpose-built for workloads requiring high-density compute and cooling capabilities, including real-time AI inference, training, and data-intensive edge operations. In tandem, US Signal is building a new AI-optimized fiber backbone, designed to reduce latency and increase throughput across underserved U.S. corridors.

The infrastructure strategy includes the development of micro-edge data centers to support fiber regeneration and localized colocation, extending the reach of US Signal’s edge-to-core capabilities. This positions the company as a growing force in AI infrastructure, enterprise cloud delivery, and distributed edge deployments, with a focus on regional and national scale.

• $200M expansion includes power, fiber, and AI-ready infrastructure

• Detroit Metro: +3 MW; Des Moines: +6 MW commercial power

• Over 1,000 miles of ultra-dense fiber and conduit under construction

• AI-focused network design supports real-time inference and edge computing

• Igneo Infrastructure Partners backs strategic long-term growth

“We’re building far more than just additional capacity, we’re building the digital foundation for the next decade of AI, cloud and edge computing,” said Daniel Watts, CEO of US Signal.
