Qualcomm has announced a definitive agreement to acquire the 4G IoT technologies of Sequans Communications S.A., a leading provider of cellular semiconductor solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). This strategic acquisition, which includes certain employees, assets, and licenses, is poised to bolster Qualcomm in the Industrial IoT space, expanding its portfolio of low-power, reliable solutions for cellular connectivity in IoT applications. Subject to customary closing conditions, including French regulatory approval, this move is expected to solidify Qualcomm’s position in digital transformation at the edge, enabling businesses to optimize operations, drive innovation, and achieve cost savings through advanced IoT solutions.

Sequans will retain full ownership of its 5G technology and will continue to serve its IoT markets with a strengthened balance sheet thanks to a perpetual license agreement. This deal not only highlights the growing importance of IoT in various industries but also provides Sequans with significant capital to further invest in its ambitions to push the boundaries of AI-powered IoT applications. Qualcomm’s acquisition aligns with its vision to revolutionize industries through intelligent computing and end-to-end IoT solutions, driving growth in one of the largest addressable markets.

  • Acquisition Focus: Qualcomm acquires Sequans’ 4G IoT technologies, including assets, employees, and licenses.
  • Strategic Benefits: Enhances Qualcomm’s Industrial IoT portfolio with low-power, reliable cellular connectivity solutions.
  • Sequans’ Position: Retains full rights to its 5G technology and perpetual license for 4G technology use.
  • Regulatory Approval: Transaction subject to French regulatory approval.

Nakul Duggal, Qualcomm Technologies: “This acquisition adds to Qualcomm’s broad portfolio, further strengthening our offerings for Industrial IoT applications.”

Georges Karam, CEO of Sequans: “This transaction provides us the resources and flexibility to enhance our product offerings and expand our market presence.”
