China Telecom is deploying the Cisco Aggregation Services Router 9000 Series (ASR 9000) in multiple regions of China to support its “triple-play” strategy and meet the increasing demand of users for new services. Initially, the Cisco ASR 9000 routers will be deployed in China’s developed coastal regions, including Shanghai, Fujian, and Guangdong, to provide the new converged services including IPTV and VPN for users. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Mr. John Ng, Senior VP of Cisco Greater China Theatre and General Manager of Cisco China Telecom Business Unit, said: “China Telecom, as the industry leader and an excellent comprehensive telecom service provider, has been experiencing robust growth in its user base and application level. Cisco is honored to strengthen its partnership with China Telecom in providing the Cisco ASR 9000 Series routers to help the company roll out more IPTV services for users. We strongly believe that by building on the success of this relationship, we can both further solidify our leadership positions in the industry and stay in the competitive edge.”

Cisco also announced a global public webcast next week (Tuesday, June 7 at 10 a.m. PDT) to discuss significant developments in its service provider technology portfolio.
