NXP to Acquire Aviva Links for $242.5M for Automotive Connectivity

NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI) announced an all-cash deal to acquire Aviva Links, a provider of Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA)-compliant connectivity solutions, for $242.5 million. The acquisition enhances NXP’s automotive networking portfolio to support advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) in software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

The deal comes as automakers increasingly rely on asymmetrical, multi-gigabit links to enable camera and display networks with high downstream and low upstream bandwidth. Aviva Links offers ASA-compliant SerDes solutions, including point-to-point (ASA-ML) and Ethernet-based connectivity (ASA-MLE), with data rates scaling up to 16 Gbps. This acquisition aligns with the growing market trend toward open, standardized networking solutions for automotive applications.

Key points:

• Acquisition Details: NXP will acquire Aviva Links for $242.5 million in cash; the deal is expected to close in H1 2025, pending regulatory approvals.

• Technology Focus: Aviva Links’ solutions include ASA-ML and ASA-MLE SerDes technology supporting scalable data rates (2 Gbps to 16 Gbps) with link-layer security.

• Industry Impact: ASA-compliant solutions address the limitations of proprietary links by providing open, interoperable networking architectures for automakers.

Aviva Links, founded in 2020 and based in San Jose, California, specializes in developing high-performance in-vehicle connectivity solutions for the automotive industry. The company was co-founded by CEO Kamal Dalmia, a technology executive with a successful track record of building businesses from inception, and Vice Presidents Sachin Goel and Hiok-Tiaq Ng, who bring over 20 years of experience in digital and analog engineering, respectively.

In September 2021, Aviva Links secured a $26.5 million Series A funding round led by the late Dr. Sehat Sutardja and Weili Dai, co-founders of Marvell Technology Group, bringing the total amount raised to over $33 million.  This investment has enabled the company to accelerate product development and expand its sales and marketing efforts to meet the growing demand for high-speed data movement solutions among leading automotive manufacturers.

Aviva Links’ mission is to provide scalable and secure end-to-end connectivity solutions that meet the performance, power, security, and cost requirements of the automotive market. Their core technology focuses on multi-gigabit Ethernet and ASA-ML communication within vehicles, facilitating the integration of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), telematics, and infotainment applications.

The company has announced design wins with two major automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and is currently sampling its devices to various OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, indicating a growing adoption of their technology in next-generation autonomous vehicles.
