Ericsson has secured a key 5G contract with Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest telecom operator, to modernize its mobile network infrastructure. This deal will deploy Ericsson’s comprehensive 5G radio access network (RAN) portfolio, with a strong focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. The contract supports Chunghwa Telecom’s strategy to meet the rising demand for high-performing mobile services while advancing its carbon reduction targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for a Net Zero goal by 2045.

The agreement includes Ericsson’s dual-band Radio 4490HP, designed to reduce carbon emissions by 54% and cut energy consumption by over 40% compared to older equipment. Additionally, Chunghwa Telecom will leverage Ericsson’s AI-powered RAN power-saving technology to optimize network efficiency and lower energy use. The contract also introduces Ericsson’s Site Digital Twin technology, allowing for faster and more automated network design and deployment.

Key points:

• Ericsson awarded 5G contract to modernize Chunghwa Telecom’s network.

• 5G RAN portfolio includes dual-band Radio 4490HP with 54% reduced carbon footprint.

• AI-based RAN power-saving technology to improve network efficiency and cut energy consumption.

• Site Digital Twin to enhance digital engineering and deployment.

• Chunghwa Telecom aims for Net Zero by 2045, validated by SBTi.
