FormFactor Acquires Keystone Photonics to Expand Optical Wafer Test for SiPh and CPO

FormFactor on Monday announced the acquisition of Keystone Photonics, adding optical probing technology for silicon photonics (SiPh) and co-packaged optics (CPO) wafer testing to its semiconductor test and measurement portfolio. The deal strengthens FormFactor’s position in optical test as data center operators and chipmakers accelerate deployments tied to AI and high-performance computing workloads.

Demand for SiPh continues to rise as hyperscalers push higher bandwidth with lower power consumption, particularly for optical interconnects inside and between AI systems. Industry forecasts cited by the company project the silicon photonics market to grow at nearly a 30% annual rate through 2029, driven by data center networking, AI accelerators, and advanced packaging. FormFactor said Keystone has been a long-term partner, easing integration as customers move optical technologies from R&D into volume manufacturing.

By combining Keystone’s optical coupling and probing expertise with FormFactor’s automated wafer probe platforms, the company aims to address the growing complexity of optical wafer testing at production scale. The combined offering targets higher test accuracy and faster throughput as SiPh and CPO transition from pilot lines to high-volume fabs.

• Acquisition adds optical probing for silicon photonics and co-packaged optics wafer testing

• Expands FormFactor’s test capabilities for AI and high-performance computing data center hardware

• Addresses production-scale challenges as SiPh and CPO move from lab to fab

• Builds on an existing partnership between FormFactor and Keystone Photonics

• Supports growing demand for high-bandwidth, lower-power optical interconnects

“We’re thrilled to welcome Keystone Photonics to the FormFactor family,” said Mike Slessor, president and CEO of FormFactor. “Our shared vision is clear: accelerate the industry’s ramp to high-volume SiPh and CPO production. As generative AI and advanced packaging reshape data centers, customers need robust, high-productivity integrated test solutions—and that’s exactly what we deliver.”
