Tech Update: Doubling Optical Transmission Capacity with C+ L-band

June 28, 2023

A A

How can network operators increase the capacity of the optical transport network?

There are 2 ways: increase the bits-per-hertz or increase the amount of spectrum.  This video explores the second option — how operators can leverage an additional 4.8 THz spectrum in the L-band to double the capacity of the network.

Infinera’s Robert Shore and Arelion’s Mattias Fridström discuss how the upgrade of an existing Infinera FlexILS flexible-grid line system to support the L-band on Arelion’s high-traffic route from Ashburn to Atlanta.
