At OFC 2025 in San Francisco, the Ethernet Alliance showcased a live, multivendor interoperability demonstration featuring cutting-edge 800G Ethernet technologies. The display emphasized the Ethernet ecosystem’s continued evolution in speed, energy efficiency, and reliability—highlighting its readiness to support bandwidth-intensive applications like AI, machine learning, and hyperscale data center workloads. This showcase reaffirmed Ethernet’s role as the foundational technology for next-generation connectivity and marked another milestone as the Alliance celebrates over 50 years of Ethernet innovation.

Anabel Alarcon, Product Line Manager from Ethernet Alliance, EXFO explains:

– 800G technology is maturing with new interconnections, cables, transceivers, and coherent capabilities enabling data transmission up to 120 kilometers
– Liquid cooling emerges as a critical solution for managing heat in AI applications and high-power transceivers consuming up to 30 watts
– Testing and validation of 800G transceivers requires careful attention to cleaning, power consumption monitoring, and temperature management for optimal performance
